Instructions For Patients After Condylectomy
1
Have your prescription(s) filled before going home
2
Keep standing and walking to a minimum during the first 48 hours.
3
Keep the post-op foot elevated while seated.
4
Avoid tampering with the bandage and never remove it. If it comes off by accident, do not put it back on. Please call Dr. Sol.
5
There may be bleeding on the dressing - this is normal. Free flowing blood is not normal.
6
Do not get the dressing wet. When you bathe, sit in a tub while it is empty and fill it with your foot elevated. Drain all of the water before standing up (carefully). Do not take showers with the plastic bags about your feet, as condensation within the bags will dampen the dressing and IT IS DANGEROUS.
Watch For The Following Warning Signs
1
Prolonged bleeding. The dressing may become spotted, however, the blood stain should not continue to spread for more than 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, please call (635-7700)
2
Prolonged pain. Some minor discomfort is common and should respond to your prescribed pain medication. If you wish, you can also use Advil®, Nuprin®, Motrin IB® or Aleve® as directed in addition to your prescribed pain medication.
If you experience any problems associated with the procedure or medication, please call Dr. Sol at 635-7700 and follow the automated instructions which will instruct you to press 1 for emergency and leave a detailed message (including your phone number). After you hang-up, the computer will begin searching for Dr. Sol to replay your message. After hearing your message, he will call you back at the number you leave.
